If you missed Pete Burns' presentation at AWCI's BUILD 26 Convention + Expo in Las Vegas, the slides are now available along with his companion article in the NWCB Higher Standard newsletter. We have also included our new Gypsum Drying Field Guide for your reference. You can view and download all these resources using the links provided on this page.
The session — A River Runs Through It: Interior Environmental Conditions for Finishing Gypsum Wallboard — tackled one of the more persistent and costly problems facing wall and ceiling contractors: finishing gypsum wallboard under interior conditions that fall well outside of what industry standards and manufacturer recommendations require. Drawing on real project experience, including the wave of atmospheric river events that hit the Pacific Northwest and California in 2021 and 2022, Pete walked attendees through the relevant requirements in ASTM C840, GA-214, GA-216, and GA-236, explained how to measure and document interior conditions using dew point spread as a practical metric, and outlined a strategy for getting projects back on track — starting with pre-construction meetings and, when necessary, formal notice to the general contractor.
The slides and article are offered as a resource for NWCB members and anyone in the industry navigating cold, wet, or otherwise challenging jobsite conditions.
