NWCB Announces 2023 Project Award Winners

The NWCB announces the winners of the 2023 Outstanding Project of the Awards that the recent Wall and Ceiling Conference in Huntington Beach, California. A total of 16 projects were recognized for interior and exterior finishes on commercial 

and residential projects, as well as for light-gauge steel framing, suspended ceilings and renovation and restoration work. Projects were judged on design, jobsite innovation and/or conditions, quality of workmanship, use of materials and overall effect.

The judges were Peter V. Burns, director of technical services, NWCB; Ed Charles, former executive director, the Association of Wall and Ceiling Contractors and Northwest Wall and Ceiling Contractors Association; Bob Drury, former executive director of NWCB; Jim Dunham, former president of the NWCB board of directors; Ray Ernst, architect; Terry Kastner, executive director of NWCB; John Killin, executive director of the Associated Wall & Ceiling Contractors of Oregon and Southwest Washington; Rick Miller, executive director of the Northwest Wall and Ceiling Contractors Association; and Gabriel Quintana, architectural consultant, NWCB.

The attendees voted for the overall winner among the award recipients to receive the 2023 People's Choice award. The People's Choice Award was presented to the Harver Company for the Oregon Supreme Court Building, which was a complex, historic restoration project of the courthouse originally constructed in 1914 on the Capitol Mall in Salem, Oregon.

The Oregon Supreme Court Building also won "Best of the West in Wall and Ceiling Construction" at the conference. This was the first time that three top wall and ceiling projects from the West Coast, representing the Northwest Wall and Ceiling Bureau (NWCB), the Wall and Ceiling Alliance (WACA), and the Western Wall and Ceiling Contractors Association (WWCCA) competed for this title at the event.
