February 17th NWCB presents a mini-seminar: Sound-Control Construction in the Field Come and learn how your material choices and field practices affect the STC rating of a sound partition or ceiling assembly. Get answers to the questions that pop up daily, including: How can you increase the STC value of a partition? What is the STC value of partition elements? When is caulking at the head of wall ineffective? Do gypsum board joints need to be sealed? How does an acoustical ceiling affect the STC rating of the partition? The wall and ceiling industry performs work on a number of projects such as schools, condominiums, hospitals and federal government projects that require very stringent conformance to the principals of sound construction. A thorough understanding of what you can and can't do in the field is critical for the success of your projects. This is a rare opportunity to learn from the area’s top experts: Michael R. Yantis, PE, and Basel H. Jurdy, both principals at Sparling Acoustical Design. Michael and Basel specialize in, architectural acoustics and vibration, environmental noise assessments, and mechanical-system noise control, with design work spanning diverse market sectors such as health care, education, technology, municipal facilities, performing arts centers, mixed-use buildings, office environments and industrial facilities. Sign up your key personnel to learn about this important part of our industry. Estimators, project managers, field personnel, architects and building officials will all benefit from the informative seminar. Bring your burning questions! The seminar will be followed by the NWCB chapter luncheon, during which we will continue to address your questions about sound-control construction. Please register for this event by Wednesday, February 10, either by calling (206) 524-4243, e-mailing rsvp@nwcb.org or faxing the registration form on the back to (206) 524-4136.
